| In January 1949, the Northeast Chemical Bureau
Research Office (the forerunner of SYRICI) was established.
In April 1953, the Northeast Chemical Bureau Design Company Research
Office and the Zhejiang Province Chemical Experiment Institute merged
to become the Beijing Chemical Experimental Institute of the Central
Heavy Industry Department Chemical Bureau, with substations at Shenyang
and Hangzhou.
In February 1954, the Beijing Institute, along with the Hangzhou
and Shenyang Substations merged to become the Central People¡¯s Government
Heavy Industry Department¡¯s Chemical Bureau Chemical Industry Experimental
Institute. The name was later shortened to Shenyang Chemical Industry
Experimental Institute.
In January 1955, the Central Heavy Industry Department¡¯s Chemical
Industry Bureau directed merger of the Shenyang Dyestuff Factory
with the Pilot Plant of Shenyang Chemical Industry Experimental
Institute, and renamed the Shenyang Chemical Industry Experimental
Institute as the Central Heavy Industry Department Northeast Chemical
Industry Bureau¡¯s Chemical Industry Comprehensive Research Institute.
In September 1956, following establishment of the Chemical Mimistry,
Shenyang Chemical Industry Comprehensive Research Institute was
renamed Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry (SYRICI).
SYRICI was divided into four parts. The Laboratory of the Chemical
Fertilizer Department was moved to Shanghai where it merged with
the Tianli Chemical Factory and the Shanghai Acid Factory to become
the Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry.
In December 1957, the Ministry of Chemical Industry directed the
Inorganic Lab and the Oil Paint Lab of the Shenyang Research Institute
of Chemical Industry to move to Tianjin where it merged with the
Tianjin Research Institute of Chemical Industry and the Yongming
Oil Paint Factory to become the Tianjin Research Institute of Chemical
Industry. Operations related to plastics, rubber, macromolecules,
organic synthesis£¬ chemical industry, physical chemistry, analysis,
and information reporting were moved to Beijing, and the Beijing
Research Institute of Chemical Industry was established.
In May 1958, the Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry
was renamed Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry, Shenyang
Substation. The Shenyang Substation was designated to concentrate
on agrichemicals and dyestuffs, while retaining some responsibilities
in plastics, macromolecules, chemical industry, and other areas.
In 1960, SYRICI was still administered by the Ministry of Chemical
Industry, and was called the Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical
Industry.
From 1956 to 1966, the Ministry of Chemical Industry directed petrochemicals,
anti-corrosion, and a portion of meter automation to move from Shenyang
Research Institute of Chemical Industry to Lanzhou where these operations
were transferred to the merged Lanzhou Chemical Company Research
Institute and Chemical Equipment Institute. A portion of National
Defense was moved to Qinghai where Liming Research Institute of
Chemical Industry was established. Portions of organic silicones
and engineering plastics were moved to Sichuan where Chenguang Research
Institute of Chemical Industry was established.
In October 1970, administration of SYRICI was transferred to the
provincial level, and was placed under the Liaoning Provincial Petrochemical
Bureau¡¯s Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry.
In January 1978, the Ministry of Chemical Industry returned Shenyang
Research Institute of Chemical Industry to its own administration.
In 1987, the Ministry of Chemical Industry decided to discontinue
light sensing research at the institute, and to establish the Light
Sensing Technology and Materials Research and Development Center
of the Ministry of Chemical Industry.
In May 1999, the State Council approved the transformation of Shenyang
Research Institute of Chemical Industry into a ¡°Central Large-scale
Science and Technology Enterprise¡± under the Central Enterprise
Work Council.
In March 2003, as a Central Large-scale Science and Technology
Enterprise, SYRICI was placed under the State-Owned Assets Supervision
and Administration Commission of the State Council.
