During more than 40 years of development, SYRICI¡¯s work in pesticides
has substantially impacted China¡¯s pesticide industry. SYRICI primarily
concentrates on design and synthesis of new chemical compounds,
development of new manufacturing methodology, pesticide formulation,
pesticide biological activity testing, and other research. The company
is a specialized research entity of the largest scale in China,
with a full complement of modern facilities. During the past decades,
SYRICI has greatly contributed to the development of China¡¯s pesticide
industry. Many manufacturing technologies of the major pesticide
chemistries currently produced in China were established through
SYRICI¡¯s research efforts. With pesticide science and technology
as a foundation, SYRICI has become a serious competitor in the China
market, especially since establishment of China¡¯s most comprehensive
pesticide discovery program. SYRICI has discovered and successfully
commercialized four new pesticides, including flumorph. Some of
these products have been sold in large quantities in the China market.
Since 1998, the pesticide R&D division of SYRICI has received
more than 20 grants from the ninth and tenth five-year plans of
the China National Science Program. Among 64 pesticides for which
patents have been applied, 33 have been approved. SYRICI¡¯s pesticide
R&D efforts have resulted in two national awards for science
and technology, and 11 from the provincial and various lower government
bureaus. Among these, the discovery of the pesticide flumorph was
awarded 2nd place in the State Science and Technology Invention
Award for 2002 (first place was not awarded). This is China¡¯s most
prestigious award for science and technology.
