| Toxicology evaluation is very important in
the commercialization of pesticides, drugs, and other chemicals.
Through testing on mice, dogs, rabbits, chickens, fish, birds, and
other animals, the toxicity, teratogenicity, carcinogenicity, and
environmental impact of the chemical are determined. Such testing
provides a basis for ensuring public health and protecting the environment.
SYRICI¡¯s toxicological evaluation research began in the 1960s.
With significant support by China and the United Nations Development
Programme along with aid from the Japan International Cooperation
Agency, SYRICI established a first-class safety evaluation center.
The center has a nearly 2400 m2 fully enclosed barrier system (aseptic
animal-rearing facility), a 1700 m2 modernized multi-purpose laboratory
building meeting international standards, and a 1700-m2 large animal
laboratory, all of which are equipped with advanced experiment instrumentation.
These facilities are managed under GLP (Good Laboratory Practice)
principles, a QAU (quality assurance unit) system is in place, and
SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) have been established and are
being implemented for all operations. The Center was established
at a level nearly equivalent with international standards and is
able to conduct all four phases of pesticide toxicology experiments,
environmental toxicology experiments, and safety evaluation experiments
for new drugs.
The Safety Evaluation Center was successively approved as the Chemical
Industry Pesticide Safety Evaluation and Quality Supervision and
Testing Center, the National New Drug and Pesticide Safety Evaluation
Research Center (Shenyang), and the Liaoning Provincial New Drug
and Pesticide Safety Evaluation and Technology Research Center.
It is capable of conducting nearly 1000 experimental projects annually,
and is the only laboratory that can deal with toxicological evaluation
of both drugs and pesticides, having received approval by relevant
government departments.
