On July 17th, Shen Yinchu, Chinese Academy of Engineering, was invited to SYRICI and made a presentation titled “Nitrile compound biotransformation and biocatalysis” for the researchers. The conference was hosted by Liu Changling, chief engineer of SYRICI and more than 90 science researchers attended it.

Shen Yinchu is an expert on biochemical engineering. Before the official start of the report, he told of his own career: at the very beginning he dedicated to biological work, and then he turned to chemical pesticide research, after that biopesticide research work. He successfully developed jinggangmycin, avermectins, etc. Through his personal experience, Mr. Shen told to our science researchers that they had to choose a right field and dedicate a life time to study it.

Mr. Shen made an excellent report in four parts: nitrile compound the most important platform chemical compound in organic transformation; the key technology in the biocatalytic process of nitrile compound; nitrile compound biocatalysis application in the fine chemicals preparation; nitrile compound biocatalysis practice in the creation of chiral chemicals. In the report he emphasized that the small scale test was far away from perfect, the engineering problems needed to be resolved and finally large-scale production would be realized.

In this report, the researchers of SYRICI has not only expanded their horizons, but also learned his rigorous scholarship and assiduous scientific research spirit.
